Rules and approvals

What an Abu Dhabi event needs approving.

The event organiser holds most of these approvals, not the production company. We flag what your event needs while we scope it, so nothing arrives late.

  • A licence for external business events

DCT Abu Dhabi licenses conferences, product launches and other external business events in the emirate, including Al Ain and Al Dhafra, through the Event Licensing System on TAMM. Internal meetings need no permit.

  • Online, or in the room

A fully online event, with no speaker or attendee at a registered venue, needs no permit. If people attend in the room and a speaker joins online, a participant permit applies.

  • Notice to allow

Apply at least 3 working days before the event, and earlier for large events. Speaker approvals need at least 14 days.

  • Wireless microphones and links

The UAE telecoms regulator, TDRA, authorises event radio equipment. Conforming short-range devices fall under a class authorisation. Other wireless microphones, video and data links need an individual authorisation, temporary for up to 90 days. For a planned major event, TDRA asks for four weeks of notice.

  • Filming in public places

A ground filming permit is needed to film in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, after Media Regulatory Office script approval. Timelines vary, so apply early.

  • "Abu Dhabi" in the event title

Using the words Abu Dhabi in an event title needs a no-objection certificate from the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

  • Al Maryah and Al Reem islands

Events on these two islands apply through ADGM, not DCT.
